The New Year is fast approaching, which means that people everywhere are putting work out of their minds. They’re heading home to spend time with their family or the people they care about the most. However, for many industries, it’s also time to get all your ducks in a row. For those in the trucking industry, that means making sure you’ve completed all of the necessary filings for the new year. Here’s what you need to keep in mind to keep your trucking business compliant in 2023:

UCR Renewal

The Unified Carrier Registration, or UCR, is an annual filing that trucking companies need to complete to be interstate carriers. UCR is the most time-sensitive of these filings right now because its due date is December 31st. Every year, you need to renew your UCR in order to maintain compliance across state lines. Make sure you file your UCR renewal before the new year!

The International Registration Plan (IRP) and the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) are both necessary for trucking businesses. These filings are essential for any trucking company that intends to operate in states other than its base state. IRP and IFTA renewal dates are different for every trucking company, as they’re based on when you first got your decals. So make sure you know when that is so you don’t miss it!

Form 2290

Your IRS Form 2290 is another filing that you should keep in mind in the New Year, although it won’t come up for a while. The deadline for your Form 2290 filing is August 31st every year, so you have some time before that comes up. Still, it’s not something you want to forget about, is it?

Other Trucking Filings to Keep in Mind

While these are some of the most important filings to keep in mind, there are other things that you should think about every year for your business. For example, is your biennial update coming up soon? How does your insurance coverage look this year? These kinds of questions can keep you conscious of what your trucking business needs going forward to stay legal out on the road.

From all of us at, we hope you have a happy new year and keep trucking in 2023!
